BRIEF BACKGROUND SUMMARY:
Ty Lee is the daughter of a nobleman within the Fire Kingdom. She met both Azula and Mai while attending the Royal Fire Academy for Girls and became good friends with them. As one of a set of septuplets, Ty Lee wanted to retain her own identity and not be part of a matching set. It was her dream all through school to run away and be a part of a circus as an acrobat. It seemed evident that this was her calling from an early age. Even when she was only seven years old, she was a perfectionist in acrobatics. She was even capable of upstaging the young Azula, but that she was punished for by being shoved to the ground by her more dominant friend.

It was just before Prince Zuko was banished that she ran away to the circus. There, she learned her own method of fighting that did not involve weapons. The only thing she needed was her body. Utilizing her skills in acrobatics, she used taijutsu as a way to fight. She uses a person’s pressure points against them, paralyzing them and even preventing benders from using their bending with her abilities.

It was a surprise when Azula tracked her down to the circus, asking to assist her in tracking down Zuko and Iroh. Ty Lee, however, is perfectly content and wants to stay at the circus, saying that “her aura has never been pinker!” In an act that is incredibly unlike her, Azula stops asking and merely says she’ll watch Ty Lee’s performance before leaving. But during that performance, the net beneath the tight rope is set on fire and all the dangerous circus animals are released. Afterward, Ty Lee agrees to help Azula. When Mai asks her about the circus being her calling, she says “Azula called a little louder.”

Along with Mai, Ty Lee dutifully helps Azula as she’s ordered to, fighting not only Sokka and Katara, but also earthbending warriors during the Fire Nation invasion of Ba Sing Se. When the plan with the Fire Nation drill falls through, she Azula and Mai impersonate Kyoshi warriors to take over the Earth Kingdom capital. Upon the fall of the great city, Azula employs Ty Lee’s help to lure Zuko out of Ba Sing Se. Together, they set up Zuko and Mai together.
After that, the acrobat wasn’t of much use to the Princess. It was after the solar eclipse Ty Lee finds out about Azula’s disappearance. She’s of course, confused and concerned. But it wasn’t too long until the same happened to her and she ended up somewhere in the big bustling city of L.A.
